Under the scorching sun, for steel structures that are exposed to the outdoors for a long time, the continuous action of ultraviolet radiation can damage the molecular structure of the coating, causing the coating to gradually fade and even lose its toughness, resulting in the steel plate losing the protection of the coating.

The damage mechanism of ultraviolet radiation on coatings

The main mechanisms of damage to paint by ultraviolet radiation are chemical degradation and physical damage. In terms of chemistry, ultraviolet radiation can break the molecular chemical bonds in paint, causing the originally bright color sheets to gradually fade and lose color. Physically, ultraviolet radiation accelerates the aging of paint film materials and affects the integrity of coatings. 

Is there a type of color coated sheets that comes with "sun protection" properties?

Tianjin Xinyu HDP sheets contains monomer resin with cyclohexane structure in the coating. The polymer has few branched chains, stable bond energy structure, and is not easily photodegradable, so it is not easy to fade or powder. In addition, Xinyu's advanced coating technology ensures uniform coating thickness, strong adhesion, and good density, effectively resisting UV erosion, and building a comprehensive performance protection system for steel structure buildings to effectively cope with the test of scorching sun.

Experimental data 

In order to verify the weather resistance and anti-corrosion performance of Tianjin Xinyu’s HDP color coated sheets, Xinyu Testing Center conducted professional experiments on UV accelerated aging, neutral salt spray resistance, and other related aspects.

For the experimental sample: Xinyu’s HDP color coated sheets (coating thickness ≥ 20 μ m, substrate type AZ150, Xinyu White), the experimental data is: UV aging UVA-340 ≥ 2000h, discoloration and loss of light ≤ level 3; Neutral salt spray SST ≥ 2000h, bubble density grade and bubble size grade ≤ 3 (S3); Acid and alkali resistance test ≥ 144 hours; resistance to methyl ethyl ketone solvent MEK ≥ 100 times; The porosity test showed no breakdown at 90V voltage.

Under the 2000h neutral salt spray experiment, the foam density and size grade on the surface of the experimental sample are ≤ 3 (S3)


Tianjin Xinyu’s HDP color coated sheets can significantly improve the anti-aging ability of steel structure buildings in the outdoor environment, extend the service life, reduce the cost of building maintenance, and provide practical and aesthetic guarantee for industrial plants, convention centers and other buildings with high weather resistance requirements.
